“Familiar Faces” is a portrait series exploring themes of immigration, diversity and connection. I began this project in September 2023; I was searching for people to photograph and posted a flyer at our local college. After posting the advertisement, I received responses from international students. Photography has proved to be a meaningful catalyst for conversation and connection with these newcomers.

Taking their portrait has allowed a chance to get outside and walk in nature, to stroll the beach or lay in a tall field of grass on the outskirts of the city; a momentary and enjoyable pause in time for both my subjects and for me to explore and unwind amid some of the beautiful Canadian landscape. Having their stories told is empowering and helps our international friends feel like they too are a part of the familiar places we call home.
